I have been working in documentary film making for thirty years. In that time I have visited over forty countries and been exposed to many cultures and environments, some of them quite hostile and difficult while others have been idyllic and luxurious. This work has given me a privileged insight into the human condition. I am also an artist and have expressed my feelings and experiences through art and photography throughout my career in the media.
My training as a sculptor draws me to shape and texture as much as colour. The fabric of a work or its components may carry their own messages separate from the image. There is an emphasis on the tactile and an exploration of the passage of time.
Objects become distressed by use and the abrasion of the elements. Wear and tear that lends character to an object or a living thing often exposes it's history.
The work I did for Glyndebourne Opera Company's 2003 Festival exhibition employs very different techniques. Digital photography and watercolour combine to produce a unique image.
